Day 34 - Valuing my Peeps

As I continue the Hello, Fears Challenge, today's task delves into the heart of my friend groups, prompting me to peer beneath the surface and discern if there are any energy vampires lurking amongst the ranks. These are the friends who, however unintentional, tend to drain my energy, leaving me feeling depleted and in need of a recharge.

Had I embarked on this challenge during my working days, I might have woven tales of encounters that left me drained, recounting experiences of navigating friendships in the professional realm. But in the current phase of my life, my interactions have been limited, primarily revolving around those extraordinary individuals I've chosen to surround myself with.

Over the years, my friend circles have experienced a natural ebb and flow. Some friendships shifted out of the spotlight, their departure driven by a combination of choice, circumstance, and sometimes geographic distance. My ADHD brain, however, poses a unique challenge; it subscribes to the 'out of sight, out of mind' philosophy, making consistent contact a struggle I've tirelessly grappled with.

Yet, my current friend circle remains a mosaic of individuals who contribute to my life in distinct and positive ways. Looking into my family circle, my family's bond has often been a great support. My brother and I, close confidants in childhood, struggled to maintain our closeness as the challenges of young adulthood momentarily distanced us. Yet, through life's twists and turns, we have rediscovered our sibling bond, bridging the gap despite the great geographical distance. It's a testament to the enduring power of connection, proving that even when the miles stretch between us, our re-established bond remains strong.

My chosen friends from different walks of life bring unique energies that uplift me. There's the motivational friend who fuels my ambitions, the empathetic soul who lends a listening ear, and the adventurous spirit who urges me to embrace the unknown. Each contributes to the tapestry of my life, enhancing it with their vibrant threads.

So, as I navigate friendships with the lens of self-awareness, I learn to identify and manage energy vampires, protecting my well-being while nourishing connections that empower me. The challenge is not just about identifying the negative but also celebrating the positive influences that anchor my journey.

I'm reminded that friendships, much like life, are dynamic. They evolve, transform, and teach us valuable lessons. Through the ever-changing landscape of companionship, I embrace the lessons, honor the connections that endure, and remain open to the vibrant hues that new friendships can bring.
